PIA CRUZALEGUI STUDIO NEWS 2019
It gives me great joy and satisfaction what I am about to announce:
Twisted Oyster was selected among hundreds of proposals for an iteration of Vital Signs at Ionion Center for Arts and Culture in Kefalonia Island in Greece, primarily showing works in response to climate change in the Mediterranean region. In addition, I will conduct a 14-day master class on the Immersive Sensorial Art Practice, a two part master class exploring the differents mediums and mechanisms in which to create artworks that can be compelling through the use of technology, and unpacks ideas on how the artistic application of activist principles could bring about significant change.

ITALY & MEXICO
Another great announcement is that Twisted Oyster has partnered with some amazing artists and venues to expand its program now including Artist Residencies in Italy and Mexico. For 2019, Twisted Oyster will host three residencies encompassing three important aspects of my practice as an independent curator and artist: Art, Mindfulness, Community, Environment. The newly added Residencies Program aim to continue the conversation ignited by the successful Vital Signs exhibition last July. All residencies allow opportunities to exhibit, engage with the local community, artists presentations of their work, critique, excursions… in other words a full immersive experience.
Residency open call:
Mexico (still fine tuning)
And yes! I have decided to tryout the art fair circuit.
In the past I have participated as an artist and this time I will take it a notch higher after my participation in 2018’s Aqua. This fair is hip, it hosts innovative galleries, curators and artists from all over the world. It is one of the hottest fairs during Art Basel/Miami Art Week.
Please send me an email to express your interest to participating. I seek to curate 1 or 2 spaces. This is a salon style curatorial project.
Art Center Highland Park has invited me to host a Seminar titled, Art and Activism, Art as Activism, in the spring and a summer Podcast Pop Up preceding an actual workshop.
More to come.
Hairpin Art Center welcomes a video art exhibition: 5 years of Twisted Oyster. I am super excited to finally connect in this beloved neighborhood.
I will be documenting immigrant stories. Yes!
As part of the group show, I AM American, an exhibition project curated by Sergio Gomez, I have been invited to participate in “American Stories in the Making”, collecting stories for the museum’s archival collection. The beauty of this project is that it aligns with a new body of work in my practice.
I AM American opens, March 8, 2019, 6:00-10:00 pm at the Freeport Art Museum, in Freeport, IL
American Stories in the Making, film and photo production event, takes place on March 16, 2019 from 10:00-3:00PM – This project is open to the public. Want to tell your story? Contact the museum to register.
